Streetcar Service Will Temporarily Shift to Support Utility Work on H Street NE

(Washington, DC) – Today, DC Streetcar announced service hour adjustments to accommodate evening utility work by Pepco. The work will begin on Sunday, July 29 and will take place Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings for approximately four weeks, expected to conclude by Thursday, August 23. For this period, streetcar service will end at 9:30 p.m. on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Hours of Operation During Pepco Work (July 29 – August 23)

  • Sundays: 8am – 9:30pm (abbreviated service)
  • Mondays: 6am – 9:30pm (abbreviated service)
  • Tuesdays: 6am – 9:30pm (abbreviated service)
  • Wednesdays: 6am – 9:30pm (abbreviated service)
  • Thursdays: 6am – midnight (normal service)
  • Fridays: 6am – 2am (normal service)
  • Saturdays: 8am – 2am (normal service)

On Sundays during this temporary service shift, the last westbound streetcar vehicle will depart the Oklahoma Ave stop at 9:13pm and the last eastbound vehicle will depart Union Station at 9:24pm. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays during the temporary service shift, the last westbound streetcar vehicle will depart the Oklahoma Ave stop at 9:01pm and the last eastbound vehicle will depart Union Station at 9:36pm. There will be no changes to the last vehicles on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Pepco and DDOT coordinated to identify minimal schedule adjustment during this period. Pepco will be performing overnight work to enhance the local grid in the area of H Street NE between 11th and 14th Streets NE in order to improve reliability and performance for customers in that area. These activities involve accessing manholes near the streetcar tracks and will require the streetcar to cease operations as crews work. Parking restrictions will apply in the specific block being serviced each night.

DDOT expects DC Streetcar to return to normal service by Thursday, August 23. Service schedule changes will be communicated throughout this temporary service change. Passengers can visit DCStreetcar.com and follow @DCStreetcar on Twitter and Facebook to stay updated with schedule and service information.
